Ashley de Ramus a.k.a “The Blk Alien,” is a portrait artist and apparel designer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The art she creates has an emphasis on spreading mental health awareness, existentialism and celebrating people of color who were always seen as the misfits. The Blk Alien is intended to let others know it’s ok to express yourself and be unapologetically you.

IYOBA started in 1999 as a mother’s journey to heal her son. When her child was diagnosed with eczema, Efiya Asabi, IYOBA’s founder, realized that the artificial ointments prescribed were not improving his skin condition. The chemicals were too harsh. With determination, knowledge, and recipes inherited from her mother and her grandmother, Efiya began experimenting in her kitchen to find a solution that would soothe his skin. She created what is now known as her famous artisan soap. As she started seeing results, she also discovered her passion for crafting natural home remedies. Today, IYOBA’s passion is fueled by results their customers can see too.

Teas with Meaning

Teas With Meaning is committed to providing organic loose leaf tea blends and authentic tea experiences. Developed in the heart of Oakland by educator and tea connoisseur, Kamilah Mitchell, a brain tumor survivor and cancer warrior. In fall 2017 after being diagnosed with cancer, Kamilah began learning more about herbs that can assist with the new diagnosis and creating tea blends from learned herbs, as well as how to organically grow and cultivate. She created these tea blends to nourish the community and promote knowledge of the ingredients without compromising taste. Each tea blend is intentionally handcrafted, carrying various medicinal properties and has multiple uses outside of a nice cup of tea. From baths to yoni steams, to your favorite yogurt or plant compost, these herbs can be enjoyed after the initial brew.

Featured above is Bobbi J, a jewelry brand created by San Francisco native, Jessica Linehan. Her designs are created to be bold, lightweight, statement pieces, that can be worn from day to night. All of her creations are exclusively made by Jess, and come alive from her home based studio.

Blk Girl Greenhouse

Blk Girls Green House is the brainchild of two Oakland women—Kalkidan Gebreyohannes and J’Maica Roxanne—committed to collaborating with fellow Black-owned businesses and inspire conscious, local shopping and gathering. The idea for the business grew from Kalu and J’Maica’s shared love of interiors, plants, and bringing joy to their living spaces, especially now that they are sheltering in place. At the 1,500-square-foot outdoor locale, customers can purchase plants, beautiful ceramic and clay pots, thoughtfully curated goods for the home (magazines, coffee table books, candles, wall hangings, speciality teas, and more!), and locally produced apparel, as well as experience a variety of pop-ups. 

Neutral Ground

Neutral Ground was founded in the spring of 2017 by Alysha Cassis-Shaw. Inspired by craftsmanship, timeless fashion, and unique styles, she recognized there was a niche in vintage that wasn’t quite being addressed in the local market. Neutral Ground is a beautiful collection of intentionally curated women’s vintage and designer pieces for the woman who wants to dress up.
